Hastings Health Centre

Functional, low maintenance and appropriate for its purpose as a medical facility landscape

The landscape design aims to create a tranquil and restorative landscape to surround the building that reflects the local Hawkes Bay landscape and community while being functional, low maintenance and appropriate for its purpose as a medical facility landscape. A key principle of design is to include environmental design principles- seeking to create spaces that will enhance the natural, social, cultural and physical environment at the area.

The extensive garden and tree planting across the site is designed to create an attractive landscape while also including special areas of interest and art within the landscape. These include feature rocks at the entrance which were blessed by the local iwi and a motif pattern within the concrete pavement.

The health centre is one of the most advanced primary care medical facilities in the country, providing 30,000 patients better access to a range of services, usually accessed outside the hospital environment. It consists of urgent care, radiology, ultrasound, a large pharmacy, laboratory, dentist, physiotherapy, podiatry, and a coffee bar.
